GRR Martin a toujours revendiqué la grande influence Des Rois Maudits de Maurice Druon dans sa saga. Aujourd'hui à l'occasion d'une parution en anglais du premier tome aux éditions Harper Voyager, l'auteur du Trône de Fer signe le texte de présentation du roman le qualifiant même "Trône de Fer original". Martin rend donc ici un bel hommage à ses aînés voici la présentation exacte:
